FACE IN THE CROWD
ITALIANO/ENGLISH

ITALIANO

1. segui la cultura calcistica britannica e pensi che il football sia molto più di ciò che accade sul campo;

2. collezioni match programmes, football memorabilia o altri materiali legati alla storia del gioco;

3. lavori nella grafica o nell’editoria, oppure sei interessato alla cultura visiva del football;

4. sei legato a Genova o alla storia sportiva della città;

- preparazione tecnica dei file e prove colore;
- stampa delle riproduzioni;
- montaggio su supporti espositivi;
- produzione di didascalie e materiali grafici;

FACE IN THE CROWD non è legato all’acquisto di prodotti, biglietti o servizi.

Genova, 23 aprile 2027.

FACE IN THE CROWD

The first audience for FOOTBALL IN PRINT begins here.

FACE IN THE CROWD is for you if:

1. you follow British football culture and believe the game is about far more than what happens on the pitch;

2. you collect match programmes, football memorabilia or other material connected with the history of the game;

3. you work in graphic design or publishing, or have an interest in football’s visual culture;

4. you have a connection with Genoa or the city’s sporting history;

5. you believe in independent cultural projects and in the communities that allow them to grow.

If you recognise yourself in even one of these points, there is a place for you in FACE IN THE CROWD.

THE EXHIBITION

FOOTBALL IN PRINT: THE SATURDAY GAME is an exhibition about British football culture between 1945 and 1990.

Drawing on an extensive private collection, it brings together around one hundred original match programmes alongside large-format reproductions, photographs and curatorial texts.

These publications were bought at the ground and produced for a single match. Today, their pages reveal a much broader history: supporters, stadiums, away travel, rivalries, graphic design, advertising, consumer culture and the everyday life that surrounded matchday.

The selection is complete. The research, texts and exhibition design are ready.

GENOA, 23 APRIL 2027

The first presentation of FOOTBALL IN PRINT is planned for Genoa on 23 April 2027, St George’s Day.

The date reflects the historic relationship between Genoa and Britain: the Cross of St George, the port, maritime trade and the British community whose presence also played an important part in the origins of football in the city.

Beginning in Genoa brings this history back to one of the Italian cities with the oldest and deepest ties to British football.

THE FIRST GOAL

The first goal of FACE IN THE CROWD is to raise €3,000 towards the production of the panels and large-format reproductions for the Genoa exhibition.

The funds will cover:

- technical preparation of the artwork and colour proofs;
- printing of the reproductions;
- mounting on exhibition panels;
- production of captions and graphic material;
- finishing and protection of the panels.

Throughout the campaign, we will introduce some of the programmes selected for the exhibition and share colour proofs and other stages of the production process.

Once the target has been reached, we will publish an update showing what has been produced and bring this first phase to a close. Any future goals will be presented separately, with a clearly defined purpose.

TRANSPARENCY

The funds will be received and managed by Fabrizio Ghilardi, curator of FOOTBALL IN PRINT and founder of White Fence.

They will be used for costs directly related to producing the exhibition material for Genoa. Quotes, invoices and supporting documentation will be retained, and the results of this first phase will be shared through campaign updates.

FACE IN THE CROWD is not connected with the purchase of products, tickets or services. It is the public campaign through which the first audience for FOOTBALL IN PRINT is taking shape.

You can take part by making a contribution or by sharing the project with someone who may recognise themselves in this story.
