Fabio's 2020 Iditarod
My name is Fabio Berlusconi, I am from Italy.
A lot of awesome people around me have offered me support for my goal of competing in the Iditarod this coming winter, so I have decided to set up this fund raiser!
I have been mushing since 2011, when I moved to Swedish Lapland and started what was supposed to be a winter season running dogs, and then became an addiction. After some time I started racing, and in 2018 I decided to take the big step and go all in on my goal of running the Iditarod. I have spent two winters in Alaska to run my qualifying races and now I am all set and ready for the last stretch! I will be running an amazing team of furry stars from Linwood Fiedler's kennel.
A brief description of what the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race is all about:
- 1000 miles
- Alaska, Anchorage to Nome
- 1 person
- 1 sled
- 14 amazing dogs
- 20 checkpoints
- no outside assistance
As many of you know or can understand, the costs of running such race are extremely high, the entry fee alone is 4000$, and a lot of money goes into dog booties, dog food and some human munchies for myself, clothes and gear, shipping all the equipment to the checkpoints, flying myself and the pups back from the finish line, runner plastics, socks, gloves, handwarmers, batteries and the list goes on and on... Plus of course all the costs of travelling back and forth from Italy to Alaska, a health insurance and all the expenses in the 6 months i will be spending in Willow.
So it is clear why any tiny little bit of support is extremely highly appreciated!
I will make sure to keep this updated with pictures and news about all the preparations!
Thank you everybody, see you in Nome! :)
