Fabe's Burial & Kid's College Fund

Hi Everyone,

I literally have tears in my eyes as I am typing this...

I guess I will start at the beginning.

My name is Mike Smith, and I am writing this story about my very good friend Fabian Abellana.

In June 2011, I was working in public accounting at Rothstein Kass in San Francisco.  A new staff started working on my tax team that would have a HUGE impact on my life, and his name was Fabian.

To say that he was one of a kind would be an understatement!

Fabe is the definition of an original. Not to mention he was one of the most positive, warm, genuine, kind hearted, and fun loving person - that I have ever had the pleasure of calling a friend.

Here he is on the field of his beloved 49ers:

It usually takes me a long time to warm up to new people, but almost instantly Fabian became one of my closest, most trusted friends.  We went to lunch together, we talked sports, and he helped organize regular poker nights to help us all keep our sanity during the long tax busy seasons.

Fabe was one of those people that you loved to have around.  He was always very positive, and when I was going through a breakup he noticed I was hurting and always went out of his way to make sure I was ok.

At Rothstein Kass a core group of friends formed around Fabe and his now wife Char, and we really became more like family than coworkers...

Here are some of my favorite pictures during that time:

A few years later Fabe married his wife Char, and she made him the happiest man on earth, possibly only topped by the birth of his daughter Isabella a year later..

That's Isabella visiting her Dad in the hospital..

This part is harder to write...

A little over a year ago, I found out Fabian had cancer.

But it was the "good kind," meaning it was treatable, a little chemo and radiation and he would be good as new.

I mean Fabe didn't drink, didn't smoke, didn't do drugs, and if anyone in this world had good kharma it was Fabian.

Shortly after his baby was born he began the treatments, and he couldn't of been more courageous or positive from the get go.

When I would go visit him, he would spend the majority of the visit asking about me, how am I doing, making sure I was comfortable in the hospital room etc..

I was one of his few friends who had experience with hospitals, since I had 2 open heart surgeries and almost died when I was 23.

For that reason, I really wanted to be a strong example to him that you can go through a health struggle and still get better and back to a "normal" life.

For some unknown reason, the treatments and prayers didn't work, and Fabe lost his battle with cancer on January 22, 2016.

Since then I have been in communication with so many people that knew and loved him, who keep asking:

"What can I do to help??"

That is why I set this page up.

We can't bring Fabe back, and we can't take the pain away from Char or his family.

But, we can do something.

Funerals and Hospital Bills are EXPENSIVE.

College for his 1 year old baby is going to be expensive.

The last thing I want Char or his family to be worried about during this time is money.

The funds given to this account will be used to take stress away from Char and his family.

What the Money will be spent on:
- Hospital Bills
- Funeral Expenses
- Any & all excess will go to his daughter's college fund.

Thank you so much for listening to my story, and most importantly for helping Char and her family in their time of need.
