CYCLE FOR MEMORIES

Help me to make a difference, conquer a challenge, and realize a dream. May 10th, 2016 I'll be riding my bicycle across the country to turn a dream into reality and raise money for The Maine Alzheimer's Association.
On the 13th of September this past year, my father Tony lost his life to Alzheimer's Disease. He was 68. He'd been living with Alzheimer's for 10 years. Like so many, his life had been irreparably changed. He was nearly stripped bare of everything he knew and loved. Somehow he still smiled and maintained a very calm and charming presence. My Mother , two sister's , brother, and myself cared for my father at home. We wanted him to stay in the home he had worked so hard to make. He deserved nothing less. He came to America from Ireland when at age 28 to marry my mother, Deborah. From the moment he set foot here his loving personality and incredible work ethic stood out. He worked hard as a house painter and foreman of the paint department at a local hospital. More often then not he'd work 60 plus hours a week to provide for us. If he took a vacation it was to moonlight painting houses. He was a very accomplished house painter and got lots of work through word of mouth at the hospital and local community. I've never seen anybody work harder then him. He never complained and was always happy to help. We did what we could to return all that hard work by providing him comfort , dignity , and love. He was a loving father and incredible human being.
Now I want to dedicate my ride to him and my family.
I'll be heading to California from Maine. My ride goes through the mountains of New England then down around Lake Erie, up to the Badlands of South Dakota out to Yellow Stone and finally across into California. This will be a solo-self supported ride. I will be camping almost 100% of the time. This will be a dream come true to me. I have wanted to cross the country under my own power for years and now I have made time to do it.
I plan to donate all remaining funds after the ride. I have saved for sometime and own all the necessary gear. I will use some funds for camping , food , and emergencies. Everything after will go to my family's Alzheimer's Association Walk to End ALZ team in September. Follow my progress on facebook over the next two and half months as I get down to more serious preparation ,then follow the ride once I roll out in May! Thank you for helping me to honor my father. act.alz.org
