Hello Friends. My name is Anne Temple, and I am writing on behalf of my sister, Elizabeth, her husband Gailen, and their children: Brody, Gracelynne, Michael and Caroline Brown. It is with great sadness that I share the news of the death of our dear boy, Michael Sullivan Brown.
On January 3rd, 2023, Michael succumbed to his mental health struggles and chose to take his own life. We ask ourselves why? He was just a kid, only 15 years old. He had his whole life ahead of him! But those of us closest to Michael were also witnesses to the heaviness of the mental anguish Michael was in, and in a split-second moment that can never be taken back, he decided to end his life. Now we are left behind to suffer in complete sadness and grief and ask ourselves what else we could've done. What else we could have said? If we'd pushed a little harder? Not pushed so hard?
In the end, what I can tell you without a doubt is that a valiant effort, both physical and spiritual, was put forth to save Michael. His parent's sought out counseling, therapy, medication and even hospitalization when it was needed. His extended family prayed ceaselessly for him to see the value in his existence, to not give up, and to keep seeking help and asking for what he needed. Begging him not to shut down, but to share his burdens with us. To the best of our abilities, we tried to give him whatever it was that could heal him, encourage him, and show him that he is loved. Despite our best efforts, Michael, in true Michael fashion, made his final choice.
Michael, Michael, Motorcycle - you will forever be missed and loved. We cherish the memories of your infectious smile, your goofiness, your smart-as-a-whip intelligence, your quick wit and your clever repartee. The world will never be the same without you in it. Rest in eternal peace, Michael Sullivan Brown.
So many of our friends and loved ones have asked what they can do. A considerable financial burden has been amassed over the recent past, with medical emergencies and hospitalizations not covered by insurance. The expenses of funeral costs, as well as the ongoing therapy for those family members who are left behind to try to make sense of this tragedy, loom. If you can offer financial assistance to Liz and Gailen as they work their way through the horror of burying their young son, please know that your gift would be so appreciated. We would also humbly ask that you keep our family in your prayers. If you or anyone you know struggles with mental health or suicidal thoughts, please seek the help that is available to you. Dial or text 988 for the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline. Reach out to a loved one. Get online and chat with a therapist or a counselor. Please don't give up.
