Fight With Amanda

It kills me to write this as the love of my life, and the mother of our children, was just diagnosed with Cervical Cancer. It is hard to tell how much treatment we will need to beat this, or what the cost will be as we just found out. What we do know is surgery is set for Thursday, October 12th and it will either be a hysterectomy or they will move her ovaries and we would go radiation/chemo route, depending on the size of the tumor. We have had cat scans, ultra sounds and physical exams, all of which say a different size which makes this even scarier as we do not know what to prepare for. To top that, we are currently uninsured, and medicaid wont accept us because we both work full time. We missed open enrollment for 2017 as we had insurance earlier this year. When I switched jobs in March I didnt think much of it as just 90 days without insurance didn't seem like a big deal. 60 days in, I was excited to attend the benefits meeting. Sadly, I was informed that the coverage for my family would cost us $385/week...not a month, a week! I then took a job with my wife where we work for some pretty amazing people. The down side is that it is a very small family company that does not offer health coverage. I went to healthcare.gov and was informed that we were not eligible for coverage until 2018. I then attempted to obtain health insurance through other sources but after being scammed twice I gave up and realized the only solution was to wait until January 1. Amanda started to get symptoms and we desperately needed to seek help. We found a great medical center that helps uninsured people. They gave us affordable healthcare which was amazing as long as you dont need extensive treatment. 2 months and 3 ER visits later we finally got answers. As relieved as we are to finally know whats been causing her so much pain and bleeding, finding out that your wife has cancer at probably THE WORST time is the scariest thing in the world. It breaks my heart because anyone who knows this woman knows that shes the most kind-hearted, caring, selfless person you would ever meet. We tried applying with multiple charities but they all are for low to very low income . We miss the eligibility mark by barely anything but, rules are rules i guess. I understand that most of you are unable to contribute much, as we of all people know the paycheck-to-paycheck struggle. I honestly don't care how much it costs to save my wife I'll work hard and pay til the day I die if it means she gets to grow old with me. The hardest part is the upfront costs that we have to pay and all the doctor visits, as well as, missed days of work. If you can give anything at all or at least share this, publicly, we would be eternally greatful. Thank you
