(5 Nov 2023 ~ Update)

I visited the family today. I prayed with Iris and her teenage son. I listened to the update I will share right now.

Unfortunately, Hank is back in ICU. He had medical complications while at the care facility that placed him back in the hospital.

Iris and the family although extremely saddened by the turn of events are still hopeful for recovery and ever grateful for our support.

Your support has been a present help during their time of trouble! And through tear filled eyes their gratitude was conveyed to me to extend to you all.

As we wait for Hank to recover, the final goal of all donations will be to accomplish goal #3 below.

Your support has already made goal #1 and #2 possible. (Thank you!)

ORIGINAL STORY...

What would you do if over a short period of time your mother died, your close sibling died, your spouse became an amputee and suffered several transient ischemic strokes?

Imagine, while going through all this, your employer changes your insurance policy, resulting in 325K dollars of unexpected medical bills, overwhelming your less than 46K a year take home.

Imagine being a full time professor working 2 extra jobs to make ends meet for your children and suffering spouse. Then add to the mix, a recent stroke, where you can no longer work the extra jobs because you’re providing needed care for your spouse?

What do you do when the lost wages and current insurance require an immediate relocation to a home where you can adequately provide care for your spouse?

Imagine working full time as a professor, pouring your best into the students of your beloved HBCU, but not having the pay or insurance support to care for your family while going through very difficult emotional, medical and financial times.

Over the past seven years this has been the unfolding reality of Iris Fordjour Hankins and her husband, Ernest A. Hankins III.

Iris and Hank (His name used by friends) have been married for 24 years. They have two wonderful children that are university students.

Hank is a loving husband and father. He was an active leader in church, gainfully employed and loved sports and auto mechanics. He loves people and has a booming laugh that is both endearing and infectious.

Iris is a loving and faithful wife and mother. She has dedicated her musical talents and singing gifts to thousands in performance and for the comfort of countless grieving loss. She has unquestionably poured her love of music into her students for over 7 years.

What a gift she has been to so many!

What a loss it would be to have her song silenced from grief and debt.

We can’t let that happen!

Emergent Financially Needs:

20K ~ 1) Rent a handicapped Accessible Home 2) Relocation Expenses 3) Home Health Care Expenses.

325K ~ Eliminate Medical Bills (or) Medical Administration/Insurance Specialist support to eliminate balance.
