Hey there, my name is Amber Cummings and my family and I need help. It’s myself, husband and 9 year old daughter and we have been struggling not only financially but for just support in general. We don’t have a village, we don’t have prayers or advice and so I’m asking for not just financial assistance but also advice, kindness, prayers and just know there’s people who care make our strength stronger.

My story started in 2019 when I broke my left hand and needed 2 surgeries to correct the bones in my hand. During this time, I was the working one and my husband was the stay at home dad. I lost my job during this time and our daughter was only 3, so my husband was needed at home, since I only had 1 hand and a toddler who needed more than I could handle. During that time, i was having a lot of back issues and it turned out I had herniated disc and needed surgery. That’s how the last few years has been. Surgeries. 22 surgeries since 2019. Since 2019 I have had pin and plate in left hand, bone fusion from left wrist into left hand, left hip replaced, right hip replaced- twice-, broken right femur that needed cables around it, L5-S1 fusion, T10-L1 fusion, total hysterectomy and gallbladder out…these were the main focus of surgeries and nobody could figure out why I needed all these surgeries or why my bones are aged to a 90 year old bones. While having all the surgeries, I have also had so many tests, MRI, lab work, biopsy and the list goes on with that as well.

I did end up getting disability in 2021 but we were essentially homeless (lost our home when we had no income) My husband found a job, but we don’t have help but a very understanding job who does allow him the time off he needs but it’s not paid.

I was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2019. In March of this year, my neurologist ran a few labs that I have never had and it was found I have multiple myeloma, a form of blood cancer.

The last year has been rough. Doctors are all down at University of Michigan, which is 3-3 1/2 hours away from where we live. It costs gas money (too far for my insurance to pay mileage and I need my husband for assistance traveling this far) hotel expenses and food. The drive is brutal on my body and often times a challenge to make the round trip in a day. Our car is older and we have put almost $8000 into repairs on it. The costs of basic necessities are more than we make a month and have been behind in bills. We have come to a position that, we simply can’t afford all of this and we are lost at where to turn. We do take advantage of local food banks, we make too much for food stamps and Medicaid. We are 2 car payment s behind and are facing a possible repossession and without a vehicle we wouldn’t be able to get health care. It’s been a lot, and so I’m asking for help. Any help. We are trying to raise enough to help with September rent (we also ready received our papers stating move or pay in 30 days) $833 , car payments that we are behind $1200 and funds for my next trips to University of Michigan (October 18 & November 1, yes they do MRI’s, PET scans and CT’s on the weekend which is a blessing)
