My mother was released from the hospital today!!!!

After several days in the ICU my mother was transferred to the neuro unit. Over the past few days she’s made completely miraculous progress regaining almost all of her motor function and is on her way to making a full recovery. After being released we are staying with her for some time in An Airbnb near the hospital while she continues to recover. Words don't easily describe the experience, the amazement I feel toward my mom (and hospital workers) or my gratitude for everyone who has contributed to support her.

As you can imagine the expenses are still high and we are still looking for additional financial support to help my mom at this time if you could continue to share Her story.

On June 26th, Kat’s mother, Ora Thornton, experienced a devastating accident while traveling in Italy. She suffered a traumatic brain injury and was airlifted to a trauma hospital, where she underwent emergency brain surgery. She remains in the ICU, receiving around the clock care.

Kat flew to be by her mother’s side as quickly as possible and has remained in Italy ever since—far from home, family, and the support systems we so often rely on in moments like these.

With language barriers, an unfamiliar healthcare system, and the complexity of coordinating care abroad, Kat is navigating an unimaginably difficult journey. There is hope, Ora is showing signs of progress, but recovery will take time, and the mounting expenses are significant. In addition to medical costs, there are urgent needs for temporary housing, meals, hospital transport, and the eventual logistics of bringing Ora safely home.

As Ora continues her fight for recovery, we are rallying around Kat to help ease the financial and emotional burden of this crisis.

We know how much Kat has poured into her community, holding space for others through stories, listening, and engaging in transformative justice. Now, it’s our turn to hold her.
