Hello All,
Thank you for taking the time to read my story. I never thought we would be in this situation.
This is the hardest thing we've ever gone through, and it is painful to put into words.
Here it goes.
My family is about to be broken. My husband, Jaime, is an undocumented immigrant. He has been in this country for more than 40 years. Earlier this year, we received a notice of removal proceedings under section 240 of the Immigration and Nationality Act.
My husband is facing deportation.
We’ve always tried to avoid unnecessary attention, following the laws while being respectable citizens, and we’ve done our best to teach our children the same. Unfortunately, while trying once more to get Jaime’s paperwork in order, we must have triggered a red flag.
I am terrified. We've been married for 20 years and have 3 beautiful kids, ages 17, 14, and 10 years old. Our kids are going to be heart broken. They are already feeling overwhelmed and depressed because of the Coronavirus Pandemic. Then, to have to explain to them why their dad might not be able to stay with us, was truly heartbreaking. Conversations that we will not soon forget.
We've tried and failed on four separate occasions to get Jaime’s status adjusted. We’ve spent thousands of dollars, relying on a (now disbarred) immigration system, to try and get his citizenship. Ultimately, we decided to wait out the current administration and try again at a later time, mostly because we were unable to afford the fees for the exams and paperwork that Jaime needed.
To tell you all the truth, I don't even know what I would do. I work full-time, as a mom, as a wife, and with a full-time career, but I do not make enough money, or have enough money saved to cover the loss of Jaime’s income or the attorney fees that have been paid trying to keep my husband here, with his family. Now, we are being quoted $15, 000, on top of other fees, in order to hire an immigration attorney to fight for my husband, to fight for my family.
Any help you can offer is greatly appreciated, and no matter how much, big or small, will be significant to us.
Please, help me keep my husband here, with his family, where he belongs.
