You never think gun violence will impact you or your family...until it happens to you...

On August 1st at approximately 10:30pm, police were called for shots fired in Sioux City, Iowa.  Upon arrival, Police found that John Mercure had sustained a gunshot wound to the head and crashed his vehicle into a tree. 

The Doctors at the hospital informed our family that 98% of people do not make it through a life-threatening injury like his... We are more than grateful to have our son, brother, and friend alive and with us today.

John's abilities since the shooting have been very limited. He is unable to communicate verbally. He is unable to walk or use his right arm.

John has undergone multiple brain surgeries, multiple procedures and long-term mental and physical rehabilitation required. As John's 29th birthday approaches at the end of November, we want to provide him with the gift of medical stability.
