Getting the Pink-Haired Warrior to Scunthorpe

Melanie is well known for her advocacy & campaigning around mental health & suicide prevention & disability & chronic physical illness & spinal injuries & breast cancer & rural mental health matters. Phew!

In her talks & interviews, Melanie often talks about how systems are broken - the NHS is broken, the ‘mental health system’ in this country is broken, our institutions and policy processes are broken.

But now Melanie is broken - or rather her bones are broken, not her spirit!

As Melanie ‘the Pink-Haired Warrior’ was doing what she does in advocating for change, visiting the House of Lords to educate & challenge Peers she fell and broke both ankles, excruciating injuries, on top of her existing physical & mental health challenges and long term chronic pain!

Melanie is due to be speaking at a ground-breaking conference - the Zero Suicide Society Join The Dots Tour Launch Conference at the Baths Hall in Scunthorpe on Wed 12th June about the many complex personal & professional challenges she faces and campaigns around.

The simultaneous broken ankles will now mean that Melanie needs a comfortable & suitable for her needs, chauffeur-driven car to get to Scunthorpe and back from Dorset and 2 nights’ overnight accommodation in a suitable hotel which is accessible inside and out.

Let’s all help get the Pink-Haired Warrior to Scunthorpe, and safely home again.

If we raise more than £800 any surplus will be used to fund not-for-profit initiatives to improve rural mental health (Melanie's amazing social enterprise Rural Mental Health Matters Limited) and for suicide prevention in rural areas.

Please note that as Founder and CEO of Rural Mental Health Matters, Melanie does not currently receive any salary, as despite RMHM being the ONLY organisation that represents the rural voice for England and Wales it receives no funding!
