A couple of weeks ago the following was posted to my Springer Facebook page by one of my puppy owners. She has 3 Springers, one a new puppy.

"Just wanted to let you know of the horrible nightmare my three dogs are experiencing - we brought home a rescue and after one day noticed he was coughing. Brought him back to the rescue and was told he had kennel cough. Not so. My 3 springers have contracted severe pneumonia as a result of being exposed to this rescue dog who had "kennel cough". It is NOT kennel cough but a deadly disease. If anyone out there has a dog that has been acting lethargic, trouble breathing, coughing, loss of appetite, barely moves, get them to a vet ASAP. It must be caught early and is extremely contagious. Two of my dogs had to be hospitalized for a week as a result, and they are still not better or out of the woods yet. Please pray for their full recovery. Thank you - BTW - the rescue dog came from Hudson Valley Animal Rescue and Sanctuary in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. It is EXTREMELY contagious disease."

Savannah spent the next 2 weeks in and out of intensive care, ending up at Cornell where she subsequently passed away. Their older Springer is now coughing and the puppy has fluid on her lungs. Their care has to date totalled $14,000. This post and campaign is twofold...to try to help them recoup some of their expense and also to get the word out. It's an epidemic in the mid-west. It looks like Kennel Cough in the beginning and this is what they initially treating for until they finally discovered how much worse it actually was.

They filled out the paperwork at an adoption drive at their local PetCo, who doesn't seem to be willing to assume any responsibility for the damage their affiliation with this particular shelter has caused to their lives. Neither is the shelter itself even though a simple quarantine of all new dogs until the incubation period and danger of contagion for any disease has passed would have prevented this tragedy.

Please post his if you see it to twitter, your facebook page anything you can think of to get the word out. It may save a life.
