Resting Teckie Berhe. He passed on Feb 18, 2021
Donation protected
Our beloved Teckie Berhe a husband to Zehanish Asmerom and father to Mebrat, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, passed away on February 18th, 2021, following a month-long health struggle.
Teckie Gebrihet Berhe was born in Somali, Mecadishisho on Sept 21, 1934. He graduated from Embalano University where he finished nursing school. He worked at a military station (kano station) as an admin.
He fled to Somali after the closing of the military station where he became a teacher. He took his family to Sudan to escape the war and to flee to America. The Teckie family went to America after waiting a year in Sudan. The family lived in the City of Milpitas, then they moved to San Jose.
Teckie spoke Italian, Amharic, an Indian dialect and a few other languages. He'd walk into a gas station or Middle East store and start speaking to the workers/owners in their native language.
Teckie worked hard to always provide for his family by going to trade school to fix appliances, drive an airport bus and whatever job he had to do to earn a living. He also paid off the aid the family received by driving to the gov office and giving them thousands in cash. Teckie was a get-it-done kind of man to meet his obligations.
Teckie was an avid reader. He took a book with him everywhere he went so he can read every chance he had. Teckie read maps to get where he needed to go without getting lost. When a school friend's father couldn't find the teacher's house, Isaac asked his father to take them and by reading his map, he was able to find the house.
Teckie is a loving, giving man, husband and father. He will be missed very much by his family and they will remember him for everything he has done for them day in, day out.
It was a blessing to have him in our lives and he will always be in our hearts and thoughts.
We miss you. We love you, Baba Teckie!
