Charlene's Journey

Hi everyone! Thank you for taking a minute and reading about my friend, Charlene May. In case you don't know the lovely and talented Charlene here is a little something: Charlene is the single mother to her 16 year old, amazing daughter Bailey (for reals, she races dirt bikes and quads- she's AWESOME!), she is a hard worker (I know this because we are co-workers and I constantly see her go above and beyond for her team members and families- Go ACT regions 1, 3, and 6!!!), and she's an exceptional friend.
Back in December 2016 Charlene was diagnosed with breast cancer. Since then, my spunky friend has been kickin cancer's a$$! Seriously, she has not let the diagnosis and treatment change her spirit. Even on the days where she feels awful and wants to crawl in a hole and hide- she is still smiling and asking others how they are doing. But recently the side effects of chemo landed Charlene in the hospital for 3 days. Charlene's first round of chemo (which she's been receiving since January) will end later this month (May 2017) and sometime in June she will undergo a double mastectomy, followed by more chemo and radiation, and then when she is healed enough she will undergo breast reconstruction surgery.
The reason I started this Go Fund Me for Charlene is because as someone who was once a single mother herself I know how difficult finances can be. I also know that Charlene has used all of her PTO this year to go to chemo and doctor appointments. At this point, every day she misses work her paycheck is smaller and smaller. Charlene has so much focus on right now that I want her to know that while she misses work due to doctor appointments, chemo, and the weeks she will be off when recovering from surgery, that she will still be able to pay her bills (daily living as well as some of her medical bills which are starting to pile up).
So if you feel inclined to donate to Charlene- please do! Any amount will help. Like I said before, next month (June 2017), Charlene will be off of work for several weeks as she heals from mastectomy surgery- let's help her focus on healing and returning to life as soon as she can. Together we can help ease her burden a little bit by giving her peace of mind that her mortgage will be paid and she can still provide for her daughter.
