Shelly has a long family history of Breast Cancer, but was shocked when on February 8th, 2021, shortly before her 44th birthday, she received a diagnosis of Stage 2A Breast Cancer. She is facing a mastectomy on March 11th, and removal of all lymph nodes on her right side. Following surgery, she will have 6 or more weeks of healing, then 4 months of chemo, 5 weeks of daily radiation, and more healing. When the doctors feel her body is ready, she will then have a second mastectomy and full reconstruction and more healing. As a result of all of this, Shelly will be out of work for 6 months or more in order to give her body the necessary focus and attention it needs to recuperate and heal properly. Her family will need support with lost income, medical expenses and supplies, and household expenses.
A Bay Area native, Shelly was born and raised in Concord. She’s an MDUSD alum and attended Holbrook Elementary, Glenbrook Middle, and Mount Diablo High. She loves watching the Niners, Giants, Warriors, and Sharks. Shelly loves her family and friends, her job teaching 3rd Grade at Woodside Elementary since 2015, her students and school community. Teaching is her passion. She also loves reading, the outdoors, and spending time with Wayne and their 12 year old daughter Ella. They also have lots of pets! Shelly is feeling strong and ready to fight, but also scared of the road ahead. She needs to focus on healing and wants to return to work and normal life as soon as possible. There is no reason to believe Shelly won’t have a positive outcome, but the road ahead will be tough and take its toll. With your generous support, Shelly can focus on her healing and recovery.
