Hello, All Animal Lovers and Friends,
We are Animal Lovers Pet Shop and we have been around for about 32 years specializing in birds and reptiles as well as the proper care for them, but we do not know how much longer we can survive in this pandemic. Since all of the closures and stay at home orders we have seen a drastic decrease in business and it gets worse with every passing day. We are here reaching out to the community, to all animal lovers, and to all friends, to help us continue to keep our store open, during these trying times. Due to Covid our funds are split between utilities, buying food for the animals, and supplies for our customers and their animals, there is often not enough left for my employee, and yet he still continues to come in regardless whether I am able to pay him or not because of his loyalty to the customers. Paying rent is often the furthest thing on our minds.
Hi, for those that don’t know me, my name is Tomi Takemoto (owner), I started Animal Lovers back in 1987, but before that I lived in Japan until I was 13 years old. I came to America when I was 14 years old not knowing how to speak any English. I went to school to learn English and completed my schooling here in Los Angeles. When I graduated from school I went to work for many different companies never really feeling like it was what I was meant to be doing. It was my passion to work with animals and together my husband Tosh and I helped to make my dream my reality.
Our employee of 25 years Agustin, has stuck with the business through thick and thin and without him Animal Lovers would not be the same. Agustin came to Animal Lovers at the age of 18 years old. You can often see him Thursday - Sundays grooming birds of all types. He not only does bird grooming but a number of other things whether it be helping customers pick out a new family member or helping set up the proper enclosures - he does it all.
Our 2 volunteers that we have, dedicate all of the spare time to coming in and helping us out wherever they can. The surprising thing is, they are both full-time students. They come in between classes and after school, even on the weekends when they could be catching up on homework or even hanging out with friends. Instead they choose to come here and I am so grateful for that. I would like to give them something in return for all their dedication.
