During Memorial Day weekend, a few weeks before his 27th birthday, my son Mari collapsed on the basketball court while playing a pickup game with friends. After he was rushed to Kaiser hospital, his EKG revealed that he had had a heart attack.

If you know Mari, you know he's always been athletic and healthy, so this was a shock to all of us.

After he was sent home from the hospital, Mari readmitted himself the next week after feeling dizzy and sick. They transferred him to St. Rose where they did a heart cardiogram. In the middle of this standard procedure, they unknowingly cut an artery. Mari was released again, only to return to the hospital in extreme pain the same day due to internal bleeding

Now, Mari is beginning the long road to recovery. He's still in the hospital but is on restriction for the next four months. Mari had been looking for a job in the weeks leading up to the heart attack and had secured an interview with UPS. But now that he is on restriction, he can't lift anything heavy and is unsure about his job prospects.

We are asking for support for Mari during his recovery. While his housing needs are met, your support will help cover Mari's food and car payments while he is recovering and looking for work.
