This page is dedicated to our son Aaron who has astonished most everyone that has cared for him in his amazing and sometimes miraculous journey back from a devastating gunshot wound to his head. On the morning of September 16th, 2014, our lives changed forever when I discovered our eleven year old son in his room lying face down in a pool of blood. I did not expect him to live long enough for the EMTs to arrive from our local hospital in Powell, Wyoming. Yet, the medical staff stabilized him enough to be transported by Life Flight to Children's Hospital in Aurora, Colorado. At least five times during his eleven month stay at Children's Hospital, we were told that there was no chance for survival. The head of neurology at the hospital told me twice that in all of his professional career, he had never seen anyone survive such a grievous wound. Yet, by the Grace of GOD and the prayers of thousands of prayer warriors around the world, Aaron is now at home with us at a rental that we were able to find in Denver. He requires 24/7 care as he is still paralyzed and cannot speak. He receives feeding and medication through a tube in his stomach. Never the less, he smiles and laughs at jokes and is making some progress on computer learning techniques. Aaron gets physical, occupational and speech therapy at home and through services at the middle school he attends on a part time basis.
Aaron's mom and I had to move our family to Denver from Powell in order to be able to receive rehab services that we are unable to access in Wyoming. Those services will give him the best chance for the best possible outcome. Unfortunately, Aaron's mom lost her job the day she left with him on the Life Flight and I had to give up my part time job this past July when I finally made the permanent move to Denver myself. GOD has granted us the miracle of having our son but we have lost most everything else. Through the generousity of our community in Powell, hundreds of people we have never met and churches from all over the country, we have been able to survive and had the funds to rent the home in which we are currently living. While we both have jobs in the immediate future, we cannot sustain the nearly $2000/month that it takes for rent and utilities in this rental house. Additionally, while it is marketed as "handicapped accessible", it is far from from an ideal situation. We are asking for your help to raise the funds we need for a down payment on a custom built, handicap accessible modular home and a lot to put it on. It is imperative that we try to get Aaron into a safe and secure home with wide doors and halls, roll in shower and large bedroom to accomodate the equipment he requires to survive and thrive in his path to recovery.
I urge you to watch the linked video and then do two things as soon as you can. We pray that you wil please give whatever your heart moves you to give and then share this story with your friends and have them share with their friends as far and wide as possible. Please note, the Aaron Horner Family Foundation is a duly register Wyoming and IRS tax free foundation and donation receipts will be gladly sent to anyone requesting them.
Blessings to all,
Yarti and Alan Horner
