Theresa is an amazing wife, mom, community servant, and friend to all. She brings light and positivity everywhere she goes, and those who know her, know what an incredible blessing it is to be touched by her brand of sunshine.
Sadly, Theresa was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer in October of 2014. At the time of the diagnosis, her children were only eight and seven years old. Theresa bravely persevered through five surgeries, including a lumpectomy, a bilateral mastectomy, lymph node removal, and a full reconstruction.
After Theresa’s initial diagnosis, she started a treatment plan of hormone therapy with cannabis oil and supplements. After two years, the treatments were becoming very costly, and since her scans had been coming up clear each time, Theresa decided to discontinue the treatments.
After stopping the treatments for about 3 months, a routine scan found that her cancer had metastasized to the surrounding chest area. She needed chemotherapy.
Fortunately, Theresa’s oncologist found a targeted regimen of chemo pills and shots. This allowed Theresa to maintain her quality of life and continue to serve her family and her community.
Over the next 2 years, Theresa stayed on the chemo pills and shots. Everything was progressing smoothly until a January 2019 scan found that her cancer had metastasized to the bone.
Theresa then went through a course of radiation for the bone metastasis. Another scan in July 2019 showed everything looking great, so Theresa continue forward with the chemo pills and shots.
A routine scan in October 2019 revealed 2 new spots. A second opinion later, Theresa moved her treatment to The City of Hope. She started on a new chemo pill on 1/13/20 and suffered immediate, harsh side effects, including debilitating headaches. After a week of trying to push through the side effects, Theresa began experiencing chest pains and shortness of breath. She went to the ER on 1/22/20 and was given an EKG, an X-ray, and CT scans to the chest and head. The CT found a tumor in her brain, and a subsequent MRI confirmed that the tumor was a metastasis from the breast cancer.
On 1/29/20 Theresa underwent gamma knife (radiosurgery) to remove the tumor in her brain. Due to the size of her tumor, Theresa will need a second gamma knife surgery within the next 2-3 weeks.
Friends, Theresa needs your help. If she has brought sunshine into your life in any way, please consider joining us in prayer and in support of this beautiful woman, wife, mom, friend. Thank you.
