On September 9th, Gus (Avant Bicycle shop dog) was hit by a vehicle on Hwy 11. We are so very happy that Gus was not killed in this accident but he sustained pretty significant injuries to his body, mainly his right hind leg / paw. He is currently in Madison at the Emergency Hospital undergoing treatment. The initial consultation consisted of potential amputation of Gus's right hind leg at the hip. After the surgical inspection it was proposed to attempt to repair the severe injury to Gus' hind paw and save the leg. Of course we are elated that Gus can keep his leg and have chosen to follow this plan.

Gus does not have Pet Insurance and the cost of treatment will create a financial hardship on his owner, Tony Valenti. As with many medical treatments it is costly for Gus to keep his leg. It is for that reason we are setting up this account to help offset the costs involved while Gus recuperates. The recovery plan consists of one more surgery before he can be released from the hospital and then continued follow up wound care, bandage changes done by his local Vet Dr. Benson and finally physical therapy to regain the full use of his hind leg and paw.
