Paul's Medical Expenses

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Autumn, and I'm raising money to help offset the cost of my stepdad's medical expenses. Shortly after Christmas, my stepdad, Paul Davis, was diagnosed with COVID. He sought medical treatment and was given medications, but simply couldn't shake it. In the early hours of the morning on Saturday, Jan 7th, my mom, Denise Davis, had to call 911 & have Paul rushed to the hospital because he couldn't breathe. He was admitted & diagnosed with Covid pneumonia.

By that evening, his oxygen levels were so low that finally had to intubate my stepdad & he's been on a ventilator ever since. My stepdad suffers from severe PTSD due to his time serving in the military during Vietnam & Desert Storm which causes him to have extreme claustrophobia so they're having to keep him completely sedated, otherwise he tries to take the tubing out. Sunday morning, the doctor informed us that one of his lungs had stopped working & the other wasn't strong enough to carry the load, but they weren't giving up. His prognosis was very grim & our entire family came into town to be with my parents.

Monday morning rolled around & it seemed there had been some improvements. Paul's color had returned. The Drs were able to flush a lot of the fluid & swelling off his body and they overall seemed much more hopeful. Tuesday rolled around and they noticed that he was starting to swell again and that he wasn't urinating very much. They brought in the nephrologist & who did a full workup on his kidneys which showed that they were only functioning at 10%. They tried medications to get his kidney function up throughout the night, but unfortunately, that did not work and they will be starting dialysis today, January 11.

They are continuing to keep Paul comfortable & sedated while they work to heal him, but this journey could take weeks if not months for him to fully bounce back. While the prognosis isn't what we hope for, we're believing for a miracle. Until that miracle comes, my parents are going to need a lot of help to navigate the coming days.

My mom has exhausted all the PTO she has with her job & is filing for FMLA leave, but that means no income. I don't want her to have to worry about bills, food, etc. I want her to be able to give her husband her full undivided attention during this time.

Anything that you can contribute will go to keeping my parents afloat during the coming days & weeks. It will help to keep their bills paid & provide meals & gas for my mom to travel back & forth to the hospital. If you are unable to contribute monetarily, we ask that you keep Paul & my mom lifted in prayer.
