A little over 8 months ago, my husband Stephen became ill. He has been through months of hospitalizations, tests, blood work, scans, rehab and infusions. The doctors, while they have a "working" diagnosis of CIDP (an auto-immune disorder that attacks the nerves), they are not sure and agree that if it is CIDP, then it is a-typical due to its progression and extent of damage to the nerves. Steve has been home from the last hospitalization since the last week in February and remains totally bed-ridden. Medicaid has not paid our last hospital bills, will not cover home health or home physical therapy and its looking less likely that they will cover a custom wheelchair.
A little over a week ago, our dear friend from Vermont, Karen McCloud, came to visit. She brought with her the portable part of a wellness device that she uses. It is called BEMER. It is a PEMF device which through a full body pad delivers a signal designed to improve blood flow in the microcirculatory system. The idea is that improved blood flow in the capillaries help deliver oxygen and dispose of waste at its optimum, thereby helping the body's own immune system to function the way it was intended. Karen then introduced us to Dennis Garrett who offered to help us out. He has provided us with the use of the BEMER and has taken the time to educate us on its use.
So what I can report only a week into its use is this - Steve has improved feeling in his hands, improved bowel function, tingling in his legs and for the first time in over 8 months - he felt me touching his toes! I have always believed Steve would come back to me but I am so hopeful about the changes that I have witnessed over this past week.
