Fundraiser organized and created by Landon’s Mom Mom (Rebecca)
On July 27, 2021, Landon was 8 weeks old and admitted to CHOP Philadelphia with injuries so severe that he was a Code Blue, he subsequently coded a few more times. A team of 30 doctors and nurses worked on him in the Trauma Bay of the ER at CHOP. Landon was intubated and placed on Life Support. We were told that Landon was not expected to survive the next 48 hours. His injuries were equal to a person being thrown out of a 3rd story window. He had damage to multiple organ systems, bones were broken, his liver was severely lacerated. Landon's brain was bleeding. The full list of injuries to 8 week old Landon are too horrible to list. While Rachel sat with her son in the PICU, I went to go figure out funeral arrangements for my grandson, if needed, wanting to bury him with my father.
The Evil man who fathered Landon was responsible for this. This evil monster was charged on July 27, 2021 with Homicide 1, Attempted Murder and 11 related Felonies relating to the injuries to Landon. He was convicted of Attempted Murder on May 24, 2023.
Landon spent 21 days at CHOP in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit.
He spent 5 of these days on Life Support. He had lost all functionality of his body, he couldn't breathe on his own. He also lost his ability to swallow and was eventually put on an NG tube.
Landon has a Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI). The bleeding in his brain continued to worsen, he was packed on ice in his hospital crib, his optic nerves were swelling and he was going blind. Landon was dying again
At 2 1/2 weeks into being in the PICU , Landon was rushed in for Brain Surgery to try and save him. The Neurosurgeon drilled a burr hole into his tiny 8 week old skull and placed a Subdural Peritoneal Shunt into his brain to drain fluid, blood and pressure from his brain. Landon has a few yards of tubing wound up in his body and the excess fluid drains into his abdominal cavity. The shunt is PERMANENT and will be with him for the rest of his life.
As the 3rd week at CHOP came, the doctors informed us that Landon needed extensive therapy for Brain Damage and they were not equipped to do that at CHOP's Seashore House.
Landon was transferred 60 miles away to Good Shepherd Pediatric Rehabilitation Center in Bethlehem Pennsylvania for Brain Injured Children. At Good Shepherd he would undergo multiple specialized therapies, including Feeding Therapy, Speech Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Respiratory Therapy etc.
Landon turned 3 months old in a hospital bed, 60 miles from home with his mother by his side. She never left his side.
Landon spent 4 weeks at Good Shepherd and was sent home when he was able to take a bottle with a specialized nipple, and drink 3 oz every 3 hours. He came home on September 9, 2021, a different baby.
We were told that he might never crawl or walk and not to expect a miraculous recovery, but to "wait and see" because that's all anyone could do at this point.
Since then Landon has had continuous Therapies, Physical, Occupational, Speech, Feeding, Nutrition etc. He sees a multitude of Specialized Physicians.
Landon has permanent damage to his spine, causing weakness in his entire right side of his body. He has drag in his leg and weakness in his arm and hands. Due to his TBI, he does not sleep more than a few hours at a time during the night and is on 2 prescription medications for sleep. Landon also takes another medication, twice per day, to help the neurons in his brain connect a bit. The neurons misfire and he has bouts of uncontrollable crying, screaming and head banging. It's heart breaking to witness and he has no control over this. At 18 months old, Landon finally graduated from formula, he now requires Pediasure for added nutrition. He still eats puree and is working on finger foods, but it's difficult for him.
We call Landon our little Miracle and he really is the definition of a MIRACLE!
He worked really hard at Physical Therapy and went from commando crawling and dragging the right side of his body to taking his first steps at 14 months old. He stumbles and falls but he is upright.
Our daughter was a Victim of Domestic Violence and Abuse. She suffered from the horrible effects of this and has very bad PTSD. She is a Survivor. She is a wonderful mother to Landon and he is her world. She is stronger now than she ever has been and she testified against this Evil person in court 2 weeks ago. Testimony by Rachel, CHOP Expert Physician , Detectives and others shattered our hearts.
Our family has been struggling throughout these past 22 months, in many ways and especially emotionally and financially. Rachel lost her original job while Landon was hospitalized , she now has a new one. We've collectively have had loss of income, medical bills, medication bills, travel expenses to hospitals near and far, travel to specialists, lost time at work. It's been a very hard struggle.
Landon's future abilities are unknown. His disabilities continue to appear as he grows. We don't know what the future holds for Landon. He is getting all the help available and is also in Early Intervention. We are teaching him sign language as he had been non verbal, but it's now starting to say a few words and attempts to communicate. Learning is hit or miss for Landon due to the Traumatic Brain Injury.
Landon has Special Needs and lifelong Disabilities.
We have set up this Go Fund Me
"Love for Landon " to help with past, present and future costs of care for Landon. Please feel free to share Love for Landon
With love from Landon and Family, we thank you!
