Mila’s Medical Expenses

Donation protected
Hi everyone, as many of you know Mila had a seizure back in October 2021 that lasted for a significant length of time which resulted in traumatic brain injury. Mila’s life hasn’t been the easiest life. Mila was born with a rare syndrome known as Sotos. Sotos (cerebral gigantism) syndrome is a rare genetic disorder caused by a mutation on chromosome five. Those with this disorder have delayed motor skills, low muscle tone, and speech impairment. This disorder also causes an increased risk of seizures. Prior to Mila’s seizure, she had finally learned to walk, she was learning how to talk, and was full of life even though she had been dealt these cards. Her smile and laugh would brighten the room. After the seizure Mila was hospitalized for several months even spending Christmas at the hospital. Due to the seizure Mila lost her ability to talk, walk, and even eat food by mouth. She is now fed through a feeding tube. This totally crushes my heart because that baby loved her food. From the beginning Mila has always had her grandparents, Amy and Kelly, by her side. Amy and Kelly are raising Mila and have sacrificed everything for her, never leaving her side. Kelly is a retired Chief Master Sargent from the United States Air Force, serving this Country for 24 years. Amy continues to work for the Air Force as a Civilian and made sacrifices to this Country as a military spouse. On Friday (August 12th), Mila, Amy, and Kelly will be headed to New Orleans to seek further medical treatment for Mila. They will be going to do Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy to treat her traumatic brain injury from very well known Doctor. Studies show that Hyperbaric treatment for traumatic brain injury has shown great results in improving tissue oxygenation, slowing and reversing some of the hypoxic (lack of oxygen) brain injury by restoring blood flow to compromised regions of the brain. Therefore allowing for improvements to brain functions and increasing quality of life. The goal of this treatment for Mila is to help her get back to where she was before her seizure. Even though this treatment may not reverse everything back to normal, even a 10 to 15 percent change would help to improve her quality of life and help Amy and Kelly to find a little bit of normalcy back in their lives. They will spend two months in New Orleans, with Mila receiving treatments twice a day. Amy and Kelly have been hit with so many medical expenses since October 2021 and will continue to face increased medical expenses for many years to come. Unfortunately, this new treatment is not cheap and is not covered by health insurance because it is not approved by the FDA.

I am requesting that if you are able that you make a donation to help this beautiful family. As a new grandparent, of a healthy granddaughter my heart breaks for them. I often look at my own granddaughter and Mila and wish I could just take Mila’s place. No child should have to face the things that Mila has had to endure. Grandparents shouldn’t have to face what Kelly and Amy have had to face and should simply be able to enjoy watching their granddaughter flourish. Again, I ask that if you are able to donate please help to take on just a tiny portion of what this family has had to go through by reaching into your pockets and giving. If you are unable to give please share this with everyone you know.

Most of all I request that everyone raise this family in prayer. God can move mountains and they need a mountain moved. They also need the support of each one of us not only through prayer but for each one of us to reach into our pockets and give to them. Now let’s get rolling and bless this family and show Mila there is an army routing for her and lets help to carry some of this weight for Amy and Kelly who have sacrificed so much for everyone of us by serving our Country.

Mila, Amy, and Kelly I love you and you mean the world to me. - Ashley
