On Tuesday, March 7th, Lisa and Mike’s world got turned upside down. Their strong and vibrant two year old daughter, Arya, was diagnosed with High Risk B Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL). There is nothing more terrifying for a parent than hearing that your child has cancer. The last week has been a blur of fear, hospital rooms, blood and platelet transfusions, procedures, medication, blood work, multiple rounds of chemotherapy, and so much education on their new normal. The dust hasn’t even had time to settle, but we’re now looking at their new reality beyond just taking care of Arya, and that’s the financial impact of a cancer diagnosis. Immediately they told Lisa that she won’t be able to return to work for a long time in order to take care of Arya, as around the clock care is needed, and she’s looking at 2.5 years of treatment. The average family with insurance pays around 35-40k out of pocket for care in the United States. That doesn’t account for the lost wages, or invisible costs, like prepping the house for her to return, the supplies needed for her comfort and care, and the small things that add up very quickly when you suddenly find yourself coming down to one income. So, we are here to ask you all to please do what you can to help the Powers ease this financial burden. You never expect to be on the receiving end of a GoFundMe campaign, and anyone that knows them knows this is so far out of their comfort zone, they’d never dream of asking for financial help. However, they need it. So, please, donate what you can to help this sweet baby girl get better.
Thank you all so, so, much,
