Dear friends and family,
As many of you know, our family suffered the devastating loss of our mother, Margot, earlier this week. It has been consuming to sort through the deep emotions that have been evoked by her passing. There are things that people are taught to expect when death visits one's family: the seemingly endless sadness, the joy that they're no longer suffering, the mind-blowing support from friends and family, and the constant arrival of new food (all of which she would have absolutely loved, by the way). On the other hand, the financial hardship that accompanies death is something nobody talks about.
I'll be frank: worrying about money while grieving has been an added stress. It feels like insult to injury. We've set up this campaign in an effort to alleviate some of that stress. While Joanna and I are definitely feeling it, our father is the one the financial pressure is harming the most. We hate to see him under this kind of strain, and we are setting up this campaign is an attempt to do something about it. It is never easy to ask for help, but Joanna and I are proud to be supporting our dad in any way we can. Our mother was adamant about asking for help when we needed it, and we feel we are honoring her by doing so.
Any funds raised will be applied to her funeral and service. We want so badly to send her out with a service that reflects and honors the vivaciousness, energy, and love that she showed to all those around her. Your donation would help us do just that.
We fully recognize that money is tight, especially around the holidays. Any amount that you can donate would make a huge difference. Whether or not you're able to donate, we thank you so much for your support. We have been blown away by the love, solace, and compassion that our friends have brought into our lives.
