My name is Kartik Money, and I live and work in Orange County, in Southern California.
Chennai is a city close to my heart. It is the city my parents live in. It is the city I spent the better part of my childhood years in. It is the city that, in many ways, made me who I am today. And now that city has been torn apart. Ripped apart by rainfall of an unprecedented magnitude. Most of the city is under several feet of water. Many people have lost their lives, and many more have lost everything but.
What is keeping the city together is an uprising of humanity in the face of tragedy. Unsung heroes are tirelessly working to pick up the pieces and begin the long process of rebuilding the city and rehabilitating its citizens.
My mom is coordinating relief and rehabilitation efforts on the ground in Chennai. She knows several people personally that have lost their homes, have no food, and are struggling to get back on their feet. She knows kids who have not eaten for days. She knows people that don't have access to basic drinking water and sanitation. She knows people who, without timely access to medical care, will lose their lives. She needs help mobilizing funds to get these people back up on their feet.
My mom isn't working with the government or any organizations. She is on the ground working directly with these affected people.
100% of all proceeds from this fundraiser will go directly to affected folks. Examples of what the funds will be used for:
1. Towards the purchase of hampers containing food, water, clothing, and medical supplies
2. Towards providing financial aid to families with limited means who are rehabilitating other families in distress
Once we have met our fundraising goal, I will be sending the funds to a bank account I hold in India, that my mother also has access to.
The holidays are near, and it is a time of giving, so please consider contributing whatever you can towards a worthy cause. The money will go straight to the affected people, and I will continue to update this page with where exactly the funds are going, and who they are helping, as I know it.
Thank you and wish you all a Happy Holiday season.
