Need help with funeral expenses

Hello, my name is Dawn Badore. My husband of 27 years, Ronald Badore, died on January 28, 2022. We were not prepared for this to happen. He was younger than me and had several illnesses. We both lived on Disability pay from SSA and there was no insurance or any savings put aside for when this happened. We lived month to month and penny to penny. We pawned belongings sometimes to make it to the end of the month until our next check showed up.

He always greeted everyone with a smile and joked around. Even though he spent so much time hurting, he always thought of others instead of himself. My husband was a Desert Storm/Desert Shield Veteran with the US Navy. He had been stationed with the Seabees in Biloxi, Mississippi, Bermuda, Catania, Italy, Guam, Rota Spain (I think) - I remember him talking about Spain just not the city, Pentagon, and possibly more. He did the Mediterranean cruise - he has the jacket. He was in the Navy for twelve and half years. Enjoyed the friends he made while he was in. He decided to leave once he met me. He did not want to be away from me for months or years at a time.

The funeral home will dispose of his ashes in thirty days if I do not pay the monies owed for the cremation. The cost online is $895.00 plus taxes and any disposal fees. Plus I wanted to honor his wishes and gives his ashes to the Navy for a burial at sea. That cost could start at $195.00 but the phone number online will not pick up to verify that amount. So it could be more. I have lost his SSA check and his VA check so any help you can give would be greatly appreciated. I have tried to get help from SSA, VA, VFW (he was a lifetime member), all to no avail; the county says that I may or may not qualify for assistance. I need definite answers; maybe is not something I can rely on. I could lose his ashes.
