Gerry Buenafe's Medical Expenses

Good day everyone, I'm Marites Ramirez, and I'm fundraising for the hospital/medical bills and expenses for my friend's husband (she is the godmother of my eldest son, her name is Agnes Buenafe) Gerry, 54 years old.

On August 27, 2022, Gerry suffered a sudden severe headache while sleeping. He immediately went to the hospital; he was released with a mild fever and headache. The following morning the family found him inside the bathroom, lying on the floor barely conscious. The family rushed him to the emergency room and discovered thru CT scan that he suffered from a severe RUPTURED CEREBRAL ANEURYSM and STROKE. Having been intubated and connected to a mechanical ventilator, he also experienced seizures. On a critical scale, he was 4/5 and his coma scale was dropping rapidly and did emergency brain surgery. Since then, Gerry has been admitted to the ICU (Intensive Care Unit).

According to the neurologist, the results of the CT angiogram found that he has another ruptured vessel in his forehead resulting in increased ICP (Intracranial Pressure) and hydrocephalus. The blood from the ruptured vessel spreads out and reaches the base of the brain, trapping the cerebrospinal fluid that causes pressure on the brain, leading to hydrocephalus and seizure episodes. As we all know, in this kind of condition and situation, bills and expenses will pile up, and this is a long-term case also.

They opted to admit him into a government hospital, but the nearest available hospital is 20km away from their home, considering the travel time and traffic. The hospital that he was rushed to is a private institution, since it is the nearest hospital to their home, they did not have a choice seeing it was an emergency. They prefer to transfer him to a public or government hospital where the cost is cheaper, but due to his delicate condition, they are unable to transfer him since it would be dangerous. They have paid all his prior expenses with little money available, but they can no longer afford to cover his expenses for the following procedures and medicines.

His prognosis for recovering from this sickness will be between 2 months to 1 1/2 years. After two months of full recovery, he must return to the hospital to re-operate and finish the brain surgery by putting back a part of his skull. The patient will require several weeks in the hospital, followed by physical therapy, to recover from his surgery fully. It is a very long and expensive road to recovery.
