** UPDATE: For August 2019 follow-up and campaign, please follow this link https://www.gofundme.com/f/summer-school-for-jeremiah&rcid=r01-156509862085-2a2dfa80b0614e05&pc=ot_co_campmgmt_w **
Jeremiah is interested in technology, robotics, computers, and environmental science. His favorite book is a giant encyclopedia of cars. He can tell you in detail the differences between model years and who manufactures the best race cars. He reads every day after school, and loves history and strategy games.
Jeremiah also has a learning disability that makes it difficult for him to keep up in a mainstream classroom. However, his special education classes have focused only on life skills and are not helping him reach his academic potential.
Jeremiah's mom is a single parent who has beaten cancer - twice!! She wants her son to have a strong education so he has great opportunities available to him as an adult.
A note from Mom:
"My 18-year-old son desperately needs to go to a private school called Merrimac Heights Academy that uses language-based teaching. He has been accepted, and I have to show he can make progress there for him to get financial assistance. The summer program costs $3800. This may be our last chance at getting him the kind of teaching he has needed all along. Jeremiah has had numerous evaluations over the years which keep pointing us to language-based learning. I have been working to get him into this kind of program since 2009.
I need prayers that he will make significant progress in this program over the summer, as it may pave the way for him to go to this school during the regular school year. I have a very short window to let the school know if he will be attending this summer, and I need to come up with the money in order to do this. Jeremiah is willing to work hard, and pushes himself with math practice at home because he wants to get his scores up. He is a socially engaging boy who does not have true peers - students who are academically, intellectually, and socially like him. Merrimac Heights would love for my son to attend, as they agree he can learn given the right program. I do not have the funds to do this as I am a single parent with a lot of debt generated from years of struggling with cancer and PTSD.
I would appreciate any help you can give me. "
