LATEST UPDATE ON CYNTHIA!
“I have learned over the years that when one’s mind is made up, this diminishes fear.” – Rosa Parks
If anyone can overcome fear by making up their mind to “Just Do It”, it is Cynthia!
If you know Cynthia, then you know this about her!
The devastating event that began October 13th, 11:33 pm, has finally turned a corner, and Cynthia is closer than ever to getting her life back on track.
Cynthia says, “God woke me up that night because I never heard a smoke alarm, and I know for certain it was God that saved me and got me out, otherwise, I would not be here today.”
The fire call went out at 11:33 pm, and the Pearl Fire Department was on the scene at 11:36 pm. One more minute and firefighters said she would not have made it out because the whole apartment would have collapsed.
Once she was rescued, she was transported to the Baptist Burn Unit. Many of her doctors were not sure she would make it. She had 3rd-degree burns over 40 percent of her body, along with smoke inhalation. She was in critical condition in the ICU for many weeks.
She fought hard! She couldn’t talk or even move, but we could see the fight in her eyes. Day in and day out, she pushed through the tremendous pain, multiple surgeries, and many skin grafts.
Not only was she badly burned, but she also suffered broken bones.
But about 6 weeks later, she made it out of the ICU and into a step-down room where she continued to push herself to get her life back.
Although she faced several setbacks along the way, Cynthia made it to Methodist Rehabilitation Center, where highly skilled physical therapists helped her push through many hours of physical and occupational therapy.
Cynthia recently rang the bell at Methodist, signaling that she had completed all the tasks the rehab specialists had given her. She left there ready to continue her journey of healing. She is walking and moving like a champ!
She WILL get back to normal. There is no doubt in anyone’s mind about that!
Like the NIKE clothes she loves to wear that so appropriately define her personality-----she will continue to “Just Do It” till she has her life back fully.
From all of us who walked this journey with you, we say, Congratulations, Cynthia! You inspire us and show us how to persevere through the fiercest battles.
We love you and will continue to pray for and support you in every way!
Thank you to everyone who has given to this Go Fund Me account on her behalf. Cynthia is so very grateful and appreciative of every dollar, every prayer, and every card of support.
Finally, to the wonderfully kind and generous staff at both Baptist Hospital and the Methodist Rehabilitation Center, Cynthia will be forever grateful for all that you did for her.
Cynthia is back on Facebook, so if you would like to send her a message, please reach out—she would love to hear from you!
