As some of you may know, the evening of March 24, 2021, Travis was struck by a vehicle while riding his motorcycle. Some of the details of what happened still cannot be shared.. but Travis was hit on the left side of his body, from his hip down taking all of the force. Travis was found about 100’ from his motorcycle with his foot next to his head, knee twisted, and his femur and tibia snapped and exposed outside of the skin. His ankle, heel, foot bones, and toes broken, as well as two fractured vertebrae in his lower spine. Travis was said to have lost his life 3 times, as well as 8 liters of blood between that night and through the next few days. He spent multiple nights in the ICU where they put 2 rods and 8 screws in his back, a rod and 3 screws for his femur, and a rod and 2 screws for his tibia. He had to have a wound vac surgically replaced every 2-3 days for about 2 weeks to help, but apparently due to infection complications, he had to have a below the knee amputation, and would spend the next two months in the hospital and another special care hospital for therapy
The reason why finances have become more of a problem, is because Travis’ progression has unfortunately been very slow, and almost coming to a halt. Travis hasn’t been able to use his prosthetic due to a miniscus tear in his knee along with other complications. He has been told that the only way to make sure he won’t be in extreme pain or immobile, would be to amputate his leg again at the fracture sight in his femur if his scar tissue keeps rubbing and is painful. His femur has also not been progressing. With the lack of downwards pressure in walking with the prosthetic, there has been no bone growth and could also have an underlying infection. The two options he now has, is to grind out his femur and put a larger diameter rod inside and start over, or to amputate the leg at the fracture sight. Either way, Travis is not having very good luck, and his options look like he is going to be out of work for a little while, and already has been.
All donations will be going towards equipment/specialized equipment, anything medical and prescription that isn’t covered, since he has had 3-6 appointments per week, and between 9-12 different medications per day and has even weened off of tons of medication already. His job will no longer cover the cost of his insurance policy come January 2022, due to the lack of work hours, which could possibly make him have even higher copays that may not be covered, on top of paying for the policy out of pocket. He was only able to collect short term disability for 6 months and was not at all planning on being out for more than that much time. Not only does Travis have to pay for everything medical that isn’t covered or copays, but he also needs to keep up with his monthly shop rent he has had to fork out thousands while he’s been in the hospital and stuck at home, car payments, insurance payments, phone payments, all the way down to food and personal necessities. The night of the accident alone was over $500k (luckily covered).
The goal amount may seem a little high, but is partly because of transaction fees depending on necessity, but mostly the fact that Travis’ success, progression, and return to work is unknown at this time, and could be a very long process and/or could even need that amount or more. Let’s all hope that he recovers as soon as possible though.
Travis has gone through a lot, and continues to on a daily basis. This kind of accident/injury is extremely painful, physically and mentally. Regardless of what he is going through every day, and his whole life stopping, at least he still hasn’t lost his sense of humor and would still do anything he could for you. He was the same way during his service in the military, he never expects or wants anything from anybody, but would give you the shirt off his back any time, day or night.. He definitely could use your help to get everything paid for and to get back on track with his life. Thank you!
