Story

The Caribbean Oceanic Restoration and Education Foundation has made great strides in many different areas of the 2014 U.S.V.I. Lionfish Management Plan.  The lionfish invasion poses a significant risk to the entire Western Atlantic, Caribbean Sea, Gulf of Mexico as well as Estuaries.  This invasion directly effects sensitive ecosystems, fisheries resources and economies. The U.S.V.I. Lionfish Management Plan addresses the potential ecological and economic threat posed by invasive lionfish with specific strategies for removal, research and monitoring, education and outreach, marketing and communications. The plan was designed to establish agreed-upon goals and objectives and to build a framework for meeting these objectives through coordination among organizations, agencies, businesses and individuals.  Culling lionfish has been proven (4 major studies) to be an effective tool in assisting the  conservation of important ecosystems.C.O.R.E. takes it several steps further by Managing a Lionfish Sighting and Response Network System.   C.O.R.E. also assists Deep Water extractions to 300'.  CORE is a 501c3 non-profit organization and all donations are eligible for tax write-offs.Thank you in advance,Frank CummingsOutreach and Education directorCaribbean Oceanic Restoration & Education (CORE)
