When we signed up to be the volunteer coaches for the city’s track team, we had no idea what the season would bring us. We knew that we loved the sport and that it would be a great opportunity to help young athletes fall in love with the sport as well. We had no idea that at the end of the season, 10 kids would qualify for the National Junior Olympics in Michigan!
To say that we are proud of them would be an understatement. Words can’t express the excitement that we have for what they have accomplished. They’ve worked so hard and competed against the best athletes all throughout Florida. Now they have an opportunity to compete on a National level.
Selena Calix placed 3rd in the Long Jump to claim her spot at the Junior Olympics. Her Regional performance was the best performance she has had all season. Kennedi Figurs, 8 years old, competing with 9 year old athletes qualified in the 100m & Long Jump. We have 3 girls in the 8 & under age group that qualified. Zhaniyah Love, 2nd in Turbo Jav. Tayler McClain 5th in Long Jump & Arianna Williams 3rd in Long Jump.
The girls weren’t the only ones making noise at the Regional track meet. Allen Menefee came in 1st place in the 12 year old Racewalk. Our 8 & under boys 4x100m relay came in 2nd place after dropping the baton! Imagine if they didn’t drop the baton. They have a great chance of being National Champions; they are Troy Scott, Trent Scott, Isaiah Morris & Antwain Wallace. Troy Scott will also be competing in the 100m for boys 8 & under. Please help us get to Michigan so that these kids can experience a wonderful opportunity to showcase their talents!
