Help Us Plant 500 Trees!

As I’m sure many of you are aware, the state of Iowa was bulldozed by a storm system known as a Derecho last Monday. According to the Gazette, my hometown of Cedar Rapids lost one HALF of it’s tree canopy, and while I wasn’t able to find much reporting about similar impacts throughout the state, this alone is heartbreaking news. Here in Grinnell, I didn’t see a single tree that wasn’t hurt in some way by the hurricane-force winds that ripped through.
I’m here today to ask if you’d join me and my dear friend Kalli as we work to replace just a small portion of the trees that were lost to the storm last week. We’re seeking monetary donations in order to secure 500 trees by way of the Arbor Day foundation. We are working with community members and organizations local to Grinnell to find home for all of these trees, and we already have many homes identified and we’re unbelievably excited to help bring new life back to the lawns and parks of our communities! The next step is bringing in a butt-load of trees, which costs money.
August 21st is my 27th birthday, and it would mean a tremendous deal to me if you would consider donating – bonus points for donations made in multiples of 27 ;) But really, a donation of anything you’re able to spare, as well as spreading the word among your network would be a great help us as we work to accomplish this goal!
