There are no words that can truly prepare a parent for the loss of a child. Our sweet son, Ezra, was deeply loved long before we held him. Though his time was brief, his life left an everlasting impact on our hearts. At our 20-week ultrasound, doctors couldn't clearly see Ezra’s heart. A follow-up at 25 weeks revealed abnormalities, leading to a specialist. Testing confirmed Ezra’s right atrium was significantly enlarged, and he was diagnosed at Primary Children’s Hospital with Idiopathic Right Atrial Enlargement, an extremely rare condition. We underwent an amniocentesis and continued to pray. On May 26, everything changed. A routine scan showed fluid accumulating throughout Ezra’s body and a dangerously irregular heart rhythm. Because severe storms grounded flights, Brecca was rushed by ambulance from Idaho Falls to the University of Utah in Salt Lake City. The next morning, doctors confirmed Ezra was in heart failure. Blood was flowing backward, fluid filled his tiny body, and he had only days or hours left. Faced with the hardest decision of our lives, we chose comfort care. Rather than allowing him to suffer, we chose to hold him and surround him with love. On May 27, Ezra was born at 4:19 p.m. His tiny heart beat at just 60 beats per minute. We held him close, told him about the family who loved him, and shared how excited we were to meet him. We kissed his cheeks and told him it was okay to go home. Our brave boy stayed with us for thirty precious, sacred minutes before peacefully taking his last breath. While we await genetic testing for a suspected Trisomy condition, we face significant medical, transportation, and funeral expenses to bring Ezra home to Rexburg, Idaho, for a small family ceremony. If you feel prompted to support us through a donation, a prayer, or by sharing Ezra’s story, we are deeply grateful. Thank you for helping us honor our precious son. With love and gratitude, Brecca and Sergio
