My name is Ezrah.
It took me about five years to figure that out once I realized I wasn't a guy. I must have tried on a dozen or more names in those five years. None of them felt right. I tried really hard to be Ellie, then Mira, then Ellie again, and many others. Finding the name Ezrah, though, that was like stumbling on something that's always been there, yet it took me years to notice it. Unfortunately, there was a long time I thought I could be Mira. Long enough that I got my name legally changed to Mira in an out-of-state court.
Normally it wouldn't be hard to get my name updated to Ezrah in a NY court, but because I didn't bother to update my NY birth certificate when I changed my name to Mira, everything about the process here in NY becomes astonishingly complex and convoluted. I've been trying to navigate this process on my own for two years and have been endlessly run around in circles by state bureaucracy and made to waste time, effort, and money while achieving nothing.
After all that, I've come to realize that this is not a process I can do personally; I need to hire an attorney.
Finances are very, very difficult right now due to an illness in the family and difficulties with the family business. But I am hoping there's enough generosity out there that I can still get the right name on all my documents. I have nothing to offer in return but my sincere gratitude for any help you're willing and able to offer.
Thank you,
Ezrah
