Ezra & Trix Survival Fund

Hello, friends and family!

From Ezra:

This is Ezra Costanza (they/them) reaching out in a time of crisis for some help from my extended community. For the last few years I have been working, studying, creating, and fighting to carve out a space for myself, in music, in drag, and in the world. With my recent graduation from the Glenn Gould School, my sudden and delightful debut in the drag world as Obsidienne Obsurd, and my ongoing journey of discovery with my gender identity, this year has been extremely productive and equally difficult.

In the past few months I unexpectedly moved to San Francisco, got engaged to my wonderful fiance Trix, and have been grappling with transition and with serious emergent mental health struggles (plus, many of the treatments are not covered by insurance). The forbearance on my student loans is expiring next month, and I no longer have the financial support of a learning institution. As we come to the end of the summer, I have many exciting opportunities ahead, but right now I am struggling to make ends meet. I expect that the opportunities and career routes that I have invested so much blood, sweat, and tears into will begin to pay off in the next few months, but this fundraiser is a way for me to survive until everything starts to click.

From Trix:

Hi all! This is Trix Horan (she/her), the other half of this tiny family. I am also reaching out for assistance right now as I have made the incredibly difficult and exciting decision to immigrate to the USA and move to San Francisco with the love of my life, Ezra. My ultimate goal is to attend grad school at UC Berkeley in the fall of ‘22, but right now I have been forced to enter survival mode as my financial resources have been stretched to their absolute limit. As a newly-out trans woman, I am in desperate need of affordable, consistent healthcare (as well as mental health treatment) but I am currently uninsured. I am pinching pennies to afford groceries, and am struggling to make rent. My student and private debt has taken me this far but I am running out of options.

When Ezra and I get married later this month (COVID wedding incoming, public wedding plans yet to come!) I will be able to file paperwork and begin establishing myself in this country with insurance and employment. I have a job waiting for me as soon as I can acquire a work permit - but the process to begin supporting myself here is not an easy, quick, or inexpensive one. We made this fundraiser as a way to survive the next few months before we can get back on our feet.

From us:

We are two trans people struggling with the same things so many trans people struggle with every day: unemployment, housing insecurity, food insecurity, lack of healthcare, mental health struggles, and instability. We want to acknowledge the privileges we do have - we have a roof over our heads, and can eat every day, we have a community and families who love us. But we are also struggling right now, and that is very real - we have given everything we have to make it through this pandemic, and we’re trying to invest in our future.

We are so grateful for any type of help you can give; we understand that the pandemic affects us all and if you can’t donate we would appreciate you sharing this page.

Love,

Ezra and Trix
