A mom, Dawn, and her four children need our help. A severe injury (workman’s comp) which will leave her paralyzed soon has caused them to lose everything. They have lost their home, all income, ability to function, …everything, but one another. This family never complains, although life has given them many reasons to. Instead, they pray together and bind together to strengthen themselves and their relationships while they go through the most difficult time in their lives. All money raised will be used to help them buy food, hopefully find a place to live and cover basic expenses. Disability ran out and workman’s comp is fighting it. They need a hand, and together we can make a huge difference for them.
Here is their story:
Life is an unpredictable beast. Sometimes we are on top of the world and great things happen to us each day and then there are times where we feel defeated, scared and scrambling to survive. It is in these difficult times that we need a hand, a friend, some help, the magic of generosity, and the kindness of people.
I write to you all now to share the story of a beautiful family. Dawn is a beautiful and amazing woman. She is a mother of four incredible children ranging from 12-18 years old. Her oldest, her man-kid, as she calls him, is an incredible athlete who received scholarships to play college ball. Sadly, he had to return home after less than a month of school due to financial struggles. Her youngest had heart surgery when he was just a baby and has struggled to keep his health in check. Her two middle daughters are intelligent, beautiful and well beyond their years.
This family unit of four is incredible. They support one another, cheer each other on, respect the hard work of a single mother and always put family first.
A little over a year ago, Dawn was hurt at work. She lost her job, was in excruciating pain, denied medical and was jerked around so much that her and her children had to move into a shelter. They lost everything. No income and no assistance led them to a dark and difficult place. Even though everything was lost, their home, their belongings, their ability to buy their own food, they never once complained! Dawn, in agony, still attended every sporting event and activity that her children were involved in. She dragged herself around with teeth clenched and pain seething, but damnit if there wasn’t a smile on her face every single minute.
Her children did not complain. They all stuck together and did whatever they could to support Dawn. They smiled, laughed and relished in the positives that they could muster. They are the epitome of a family.
Recently Dawn has been informed that the bulging disc in her back has wrapped around her spine and is currently at 9mm. It is not operable. Her options are to wait for it to rupture, and when it does she will be paralyzed. She took this news with such grace. Most people would panic and stress over losing the loss of movement in their lower body. They would be terrified and frozen in pain. Dawn, while I am not suggesting that she isn’t scared, continues to smile and find the positive even in this situation. She speaks of being happy that she will be able to be with her children that not everything is about mobilization. She truly is incredible.
The purpose of this GoFundMe, is to help this lovely little family. They have struggled so very much and have nothing but uphill battles. They have no money coming in and need to eat, put gas in the car to get the kids to school and athletics, need rent money and all the basic necessities. They have run out of options. Finally, a month ago the family moved into a home after being in the shelter for over a year. Within three weeks, the roommates decided that the situation was not optimal and has asked Dawn and her kids to move before October. No money and no place to go is enough stress to roll over anyone, but Dawn? Well I saw Dawn today and damnit if she still wasn’t smiling and said to me, “Heather, it is hard, but we love each other and we will get through this too.”
You have to admire this amazing woman!
We are trying to raise money to give them a leg up, a way to relieve some of the stress. Money doesn’t solve all problems, but it can relieve some stress that this family is enduring. Whatever you can help with would be greatly appreciated and if you share this, you will help us to reach more people!!
Thank you in advance for reading the Dawn and family story.
