Dear friends, family, and kind-hearted individuals,
I am reaching out with a heavy heart and a deep sense of urgency. My name is Bala Sreedevi (Devi) and I’ve recently been diagnosed with advanced form of Cancer. As per the oncologist, this diagnosis is a rare condition, attributed to genetic factors, and has left me and my loved ones devastated.
I have been working as a teacher in South Indian Lake, Manitoba, but things changed in December when I received this diagnosis. The doctor has assured me that with the right treatment, it is curable. However, the path to healing is not easy.
My visa in Canada is to expire in April 2025, and in order to not disrupt the continuity required in treatment, I will not be able to start or continue my medical care here. I will need to leave my job and return to India to receive the specialized care I urgently need.
My husband will be by my side throughout this journey. However, he will not be able to work either, as he will need to take care for me and my daughter during this time. Additionally, the treatment I require involves an expensive drug called Pembrolizumab, which costs USD 5000 per dose. As per the treatment regimen the oncologist stated, chemotherapy would not be effective and suggested immunotherapy using the above-mentioned drug which is to be given to me every three weeks and to be continued for two years.
The total cost for my medications alone sums up to CAD 170,000 in India, for which we are not prepared. This is where I turn to you—my family, friends, and compassionate strangers who might understand the weight of such a struggle.
If you are able to contribute, I would be eternally grateful for your support. If you are unable to donate, please share this campaign with others who might be willing to help. Your prayers, positive thoughts, and any form of support will mean the world to me as I begin this challenging but hopeful journey.
Thank you for your time and for being a part of my fight.
With love and gratitude,
Bala Sreedevi (Devi)
