My name is Kemar McKenzie, and I am writing to you today with a heart heavy with sorrow but also ignited by a spark of hope. That hope is you.
Just yesterday, the devastating Hurricane Melissa tore through Jamaica. In its wake, it left shattered lives and unimaginable loss. Families who had so little to begin with now have nothing but the clothes on their backs. Their homes, their cherished photographs, their children’s toys, and their means of making a living—all gone.
I have a deep personal connection to this place because I am a Jamaican. I stood in the very streets that are now rubble. I have seen the resilience and warmth of these families firsthand, and to see them brought to their knees by this tragedy is heartbreaking.
This is where we come in. This is where your compassion can become a lifeline.
I have started this GoFundMe campaign to provide direct, immediate financial assistance to the families affected. This is not a fund for administrative costs or distant organizations. Every single dollar you donate will be personally delivered to these families. I'll be ensuring that your generosity translates directly into:
· Safe, temporary shelter and securing materials to begin rebuilding.
· Food, clean water, and essential supplies to meet their most urgent needs.
· Clothing and shoes to replace what was lost.
· Medical supplies for those with injuries or ongoing health conditions.
My Promise of Complete Transparency:
I believe that trust is the foundation of generosity. To honor that trust, I commit to you:
1. Direct Distribution: I will work with local community leaders to identify the families with the most critical needs. Funds will be distributed as fairly and efficiently as possible.
2. Regular Updates: You will not be left wondering where your money went. I will post frequent updates right here on this GoFundMe page, including photos and stories (with their permission) of the families you are helping.
3. Full Accountability: I will provide a breakdown of how the funds were allocated, so you can see the direct impact of your gift.
We cannot replace the memories lost, but we can help them rebuild the foundation for new ones. We can be the hand that helps them stand again. We can show them that even in their darkest hour, they are not forgotten.
Please, if you are able, give whatever you can. No amount is too small.
· $25 can provide a family with food and water for several days.
· $50 can buy essential bedding and clothing.
· $100 can contribute significantly to building materials for a new home.
· Any amount sends a powerful message of solidarity and love.
If you are unable to donate at this time, you can still make a world of difference by sharing this campaign with your friends, family, and on your social networks.
From the bottom of my heart, and on behalf of the families in Jamaica who will feel your love and support, thank you. Thank you for your kindness, your generosity, and for being a beacon of hope.
With deepest gratitude,
Kemar McKenzie
