Eye Of The Avocado Pop Up!
Gah...asking for money is never easy. i have been cooking mostly on my own for the past 8 years & this is the first time i'm reaching out for a little help from my friends. if we don't yet know one another, I'm Jes, your friendly esoteric // radio dj // sometimes funny // chef friend. I like my friend's music, I probably like your old records, I think Bill Hicks is real funny, I like reading Brautigan, sharing the importance of smart food practices & turning folks on to real food!
I have a great amount of luck on my side & have been offered a long term breakfast pop up at Avedano's Butcher Shop in Bernal Heights, SF serving my famous 7 min eggs (LA Weekly 7 min Egg Article ) as part of the radest breakfast egg sandi soon to be available in San Francisco (the ROYGBIV Sandi).

Eye of the Avocado Presents :In Dreams a breakfast pop up that gives a nod not only the magical film maker Akira Kurosawa but also the iconic Roy Orbison!
The PLAN includes buying a new convection oven to warm the most beautiful buttery brioche buns, melt some Cabot clothbound cheddar & make the aromatic herb butter glide like well, butter. I need cutting boards & maybe 1 new knife to cut the onions for my lactofermented pickles. plenty of storage containers to hold Avedano's house-made bacon, organic avocados, Cabot Cheddar, soft herbs & pretty greens like raddichio castelfranco. Lots of this, and that, pop ups cost lots of dough ;). Drink containers will be needed to hold sun tea, virgin mary's & a tonic for all you friends who drank one too many.
I'm getting a little neon 7 minute egg sign made to both act as my open sign & to add some of my own style to the pre - existing space & have commissioned one of my favorite sf artists (lindsay stripling) to design me a logo to be made into a banner & signage.
As you may have read, I'm a fan of music and will need a wireless stereo system to create the magic that is audible tunes.
Ideally this pop up will lead to greater things for both eye of the avocado & san francisco. a city i've lived in/loved in for over 8 years, that gave me the opportunity to learn about food in the first place. I have worked at such iconic food destinations as Tartine Bakery, Bi-Rite Market & Little Star Pizza. i would love to take root & build a thing/grow a thing here. but alas, one step at a time!

Currently i design the food portion of Terroir Natural Wine bar's menu. located in the soma district of san francisco, i source all my ingredients at both the ferry building's farmer market & rainbow grocery. i have always been committed to organic produce, pasture raised meat, local & sustainable practices (waste conscious, renewable resources & smart whole animal/ vegetable practices). i have found knowing & promoting the local farmers who create community buy nourishing us, is one of the greatest gifts of being a chef.
The pop up is one of those fall in your lap sudden prizes in life. I am so thrilled to bring some more solid breakfast offerings to sunny little Bernal Heights, which is much in need. I would love your help today to make these dreams come true and hopefully become part of your dreams too.
I will thank you all personally to the moon and back, and if you are near SF please come to the pop up and allow me to make you a sinfully delicious breakfast sandwich!
I close my eyes, Then I drift away
Into the magic night. I softly say
A silent prayer like dreamers do.
