Eyeiti

In a country of 10,000,000 people, Haiti has only 3 local optometrists.

From my Mother’s birthday (December 18) through Haitian Independence Day (January 1), I am raising funds for an organization called Eyeiti (501(c)(3)).

In the Haitian language, Creole, the word Haiti translates to Ayiti, pronounced eye-iti.

Eyeiti is focused on the improvement of the eyesight of the people of Haiti.

Growing up, my mom and 2 aunts slept on a bed with my grandma made of their clothes. The girls wore the same clothes they slept on to school every day. Imagine how frustrating and annoying it would be to search for the correct size dress while squinting your eyes in a mildly lit room, hoping you didn’t take your little or big sister's dress or need to wake your mother to grab a shirt.

Good Samaritan Haitian Alliance Church (GSHAC, my Mom’s church) will be the beneficiary to continue their mission. Your money will be used to cover the cost of glasses and transportation to Haiti to support the following goals:
  • 2 mission trips per year
  • Test 300 people
  • Distribute 275 prescription glasses and 100 sunglasses

Since 2016, they have distributed over 3,000 glasses to adults and children.

Every second of life matters. As someone who wore corrective lenses into his 30s, I know shaving off seconds to see a clock while in bed with your head still on the pillow is a game changer.

In our inaugural year, we have set the modest goal of raising $1,804. #iykyk
