”Meet Murray
Murray is an 11 month old Great Dane. He is the sweetest, goodest boy ever!! He loves other dogs, frisbees, running in the yard, and cheese! I get a lot of questions about his coloring, so if you’re wondering his coat is considered “chocolate harlequin”. I got Murray when he was 4 months old from a breeder, and within a few days I could tell something was off. He was very timid, would duck his head, be fearful about turning corners and tight spaces, and his right eye just looked different. It seemed related to his vision, but I didn’t think it was anything serious as he never ran into objects or anything of that nature. The vet had tested for tumors and cancer of the eye but came back negative. When Murray was 7 months old, I noticed his right eye was getting more red and swollen looking so I took him to the vet thinking he had an eye infection. Come to find out, they said he had glaucoma and needed to see an ophthalmologist immediately. The next week the ophthalmologist said he is completely blind in the right eye and has glaucoma, cataracts, a detached lens and a detached retina. My heart broke. I felt helpless, like I should have known sooner or done more to help. The doc said Murray was likely born blind in that eye, and he is at risk for the other eye to become diseased as well. Murray requires eye drops in both eyes multiple times per day to control the glaucoma and prevent it from developing in the other eye. He will soon require surgery to remove the right eye and sew it shut. Between the eye drops, the vet and specialist visits, and the surgery, the expenses are overwhelming. I am 2019 college graduate and also recently lost my job due to COVID-19 and have been trying to save money for him until these unexpected setbacks. Murray will be the most handsome boy no matter how many eyes he has!! I would be eternally grateful for any amount you are willing to donate, Murray deserves the world and has had a tough first year of his life. Thank you ❤️”
