Dear Friends and Family,
As most of you know my Sister, Erin has been diagnosed with a rare tumor in her left eye. This came on quite suddenly and has left her legally blind in her left eye. She has been going to the Ocular Oncology Department at Stanford and will have to undergo a series of treatments. While we are very fortunate that we are so close to such an amazing place like Stanford, the cost is overwhelming.
Erin was able to take the first step in her treatment on 11/2/18 when she received a steroid injection in her eye that will help the inflammation and hopefully stop her retina from detaching more than it already has. The next step is a series of treatments that are very costly. We still have not been advised of the cost but expect it to range between $5,000-$10,000 per treatment. These need to be done a couple of weeks apart. Then there is still another surgery that will need to be done to repair the retina and remove scar tissue. This procedure will hopefully restore some of her lost vision in the left eye. There is a still a chance that this has been caused by a rare genetic disease (Von Hippel-Lindau syndrome) and she will also have to undergo genetic testing for this. The cost for this testing is also significant.
Erin does not have medical insurance and her cost thus far has been over $10,000. I am coming to you, our family and friends and asking for help and support during this difficult time. Erin is always helping others and I ask that others now help her. Anything helps, it all adds up!
Thank you,
Molly
