Our good friend John Berghammer is receiving great care from UW to treat the rare disease Ocular Melanoma (eye cancer) in his left eye. On June 20, 2019, he received the devastating news during a routine eye exam. Ocular Melanoma is a disease in which only six in every million people are afflicted. OM is a very aggressive form of cancer, very difficult to treat and in many instances fatal should it metastasize. From the point of diagnosis forward, John and his wife Georgette's lives were changed forever.
Through this cancer journey, John never gave up. He has gone through radiation, surgery, and has many lasting chronic issues such as constant fatigue, stomach problems, headache, eye pain, and impaired vision in his left eye. He has missed a lot of work and his family has incurred staggering medical debt. Despite this, John has kept his positive attitude and his crazy sense of humor. John's sister has taken John to several appointments and said, "I have seen first-hand John's struggle and have been amazed at his courage, strength, resilience and positive attitude despite the pain. He is smiling and ready to offer support to others around him." He credits Georgette, friends, family, and his faith for getting him through so far. John told me about their medical financial difficulties and I wanted to help out, so I decided to set up this fundraiser.
Any funds will help towards past and ongoing medical and incidental expenses. If you are unable to donate I just ask that you send prayers up often for John's healing and Georgette's strength and perseverance. Any support we can give them helps. John and Georgette have been encouraging and positive influences in our community. Thank you so much for sharing or donating to the Berghammer family. They have uplifted so many of us and this way we can return the favor. Much appreciation.
