1 in 100,000: Scimitar Syndrome Surgery for Erin

Donation protected
Hello, my name is Erin Andres. I am a medical enigma. I was born with a variety of anatomical anomolies. One of which is Scimitar Syndrome. It is a 1 in 100,000 occurrence. In English, rather than having 2 pulmonary veins pumping directly into the next chamber, I have one large pulmonary vein attempting to pump blood into the next chamber, but instead, for lack of better terms, is backwashing causing double duty. It’s now operated on when the children are really young, however, I made it to 40 without someone stating I need open heart surgery.

I was told by a cardiologist on Valentine’s Day— not quite the box of chocolate a girl is hoping for… I was planning to work and save up PTO for as long as possible, however, due to some sketchy circumstances, my company of 4 years forced me to resign one month prior to the surgery…meaning I didn’t get PTO time or the money it was worth. I also ended up in an ER last weekend with a knee injury…then my car’s AC died. Nothing like a good Plot Twist after the original Plot Twist for the year.

Additionally, did you know you need to be cleared by dental  prior to having cardiac surgery? Well, $5,800 out of pocket later, my teeth are almost fixed (and that was after insurance).

And, just as you think things can’t get any better, I learned today that due to my circumstances, I will need to be on sternal precautions for 12 weeks, which really doesn’t help a woman in a wheelchair…

So, I am turning to my family, friends and community to ask to help me raise funds for keeping life going while I’m trying to recover. I assure everyone I’m looking for new employment during this period—a job with less stress, that makes me happy, and pays me for what I’m worth. However, with no income, and FL having strange rules on short term disability, I’m stuck. The money raised will go towards care of my 4 fur babies, out of pocket medical copays, food, medical equipment to keep me safe at home, and your average monthly bills.

I thank you all for reading my story and considering making a donation, sending positive thoughts, and sharing my link with your friends. I wouldn’t have made it this far without you all. I’m grateful for having each of you in my corner.
