Hello, My name is Zachary Cohen. I am a 20 year old father to the oh-so beautiful Olivia Jade Cohen, and boyfriend "babydaddy" of Jinnessa Contawe. I find joy in my family and my passion for motorcyles.
After many requests from my good friends over at BARF (Bay Area Riders Forum), I have decided to create a GoFundMe to well, ya know, help me get back on my feet.
On October 18th, I was on my commute home from a long day at work with not a worry on my mind because I was on my two wheels. All of a sudden that changed when someone decided to abrubtly change lanes in front of me. I got stuck in between two cars. Next thing you know I was on the ground, not wanting to move a bit. I fractured my talus bone and severed 2 of the 3 arteries in my foot. After the doctors installed the external fixator they told me it would be a waiting game to see how it would turn out. Either I walk away or I lose a foot. Over a period of 3 weeks, the situation got worse. My talus bone didn't feel like it was improving and my foot declared itself "dead." It wasn't a pretty sight and hurt a lot. At that point we decided on a below-knee amputation. Yesterday, we did the procedure. A month after the accident, I am losing my lower leg.
Never would I have thought of me being in this position. It's a trip to me everytime I look down at that stump. I stay positive cause that's all we can do in a situation like this. Bob Marley once said "Just can't live that negative way make way for the positive day!" I like to think that way every morning I wake up here in this hospital. Crossing my fingers I'll make my scheduled release date: Thanksgiving Morning!!!
Like I said, I received suggestions to make this by my riding pals. They have supported me through my whole recovery and I cannot thank them enough. Genuinely kind hearted people. Any money that is raised through here will be split a few different ways:
-Prosthetic Leg (copay)
-Hospital Bills (copay)
-My Multistrada Fund (future bike of choice)
Any & all donations are appreciated. Thanks again to BARF for the suggestion. & Thanks to my friends, family, and anyone who takes the time to read my story. I love you all.
PLEASE always be sure to keep an eye out for motorcyclists, they have families to get home to!
One last thing I'd like to add: Life can change in an instant. I remember feeling that indescribable feeling of freedom one moment & the next I'm in the middle of the I-80 on the ground. Please appreciate everything you have & everyone that cares for you. I know for a fact, I won't take anything for granted anymore. Stay up peeps!
