Erb’s Palsy is a condition where a newborn baby has weakness or paralysis in their arm due to nerve damage. The horrible side to this condition, is that the condition is usually preventable, and is often caused by medical mistakes. People with erbs palsy never fully recover and it is the most common birth injury there is.
The most heart-breaking moment is when you know your baby was safely tucked away in your tummy, with perfectly working arms and after being born, is now going to have this life changing condition.
We are very lucky Amelia’s right arm/shoulder has most of its movement and she has never told us of any pain. However as she gets older it could change, which is one of the reasons why the charity is so important.
Erb’s Palsy charity is… a lifeline, advice, help and support. I put a question on the Facebook group last week and got 20 responses with invaluable help. From helping adults living with this condition, to helping parents starting to learn about this condition effecting their new born baby. It is a network of knowledge and support you cannot get from hospitals. Some doctors, midwives and physiotherapists have not even heard of this condition! A doctor actually recommended I find this charity as they will be able to help me more than any hospital will. So what happens if this charity is no longer there!
your donation will be used to keep the charity afloat, family fun days, to raise awareness, compassionate care and ultimately educating health professionals about Erbs Palsy.
